Their latest project is the GVBeestje and it’s quite simple. They put stickers of a funny crocodile on the windows of every tram in Amsterdam. When someone looks through the window and sees the crocodile it looks like the crocodile is eating the people on the street. When you move your head up and down, the crocodile moves along. Look at the video on the left side of this page!
So what does this tell us? It is a good example of the trend Inline. But why do we like these kinds of tools? Are we so overloaded with online data that our need for offline is growing? Do we really need these kinds of call-ups to remind us to not be on our phone 24/7? I think it is a good distraction and wake-up call to go offline for just a second.
Augmented reality has always been kind of a bridge between online and offline. This bridge or the connection between online and offline is also known as the trend Inline. Where augmented made offline online, this funny little game brings augmented reality back to offline.
I’m pretty sure you all have heard of augmented reality and if you don’t I’m pretty sure you do know what it is. Augmented reality is simple capturing an image of (for example) the street with you smartphone, while your smartphone ads features to it like information or signage. So in fact, augmented reality ads digital, online features to the offline world around you. Now it seems that with this funny game, the makers wanted to turn this the other way around. The creators are the people of Headmade, a creative company in Rotterdam. They say this about themselves: “Today is one of the days we turn thoughts into tangibles. Our heads research and think up ideas that our hands make into installations, games, movies, photography, stories and publications. That is Headmade”.
