That Dutch people are generally against fur is a well known fact and the numbers of adherents are growing. In 2015 some Dutch designers, like Iris van Herpen, Non by Kim and Franzel, collaborated to stand up against fur. They also announced that they would be no longer using fur anymore. But not only in The Netherlands fashion is getting more and more fur-free. In March 2016 big fashion icon Georgio Armani pronounced that they would be no longer using fur for all its brands, which include Giorgio Armani, Armani Collezioni, Emporio Armani, and A/X Armani Exchange, among others. Are we going to a fur-free society?

Fur. It is a much-discussed topic in the fashion industry that has known many demonstrations the last decades. You can say that costumers are divided in two groups: lovers and haters. But it looks like the fashion industry is now making the decision for us.

Today a Dutch actress, Georgina Verbaan, opened Europe’s very first fur-free shopping street. The street is located in the 9-Streets in Amsterdam. The 9-streets are well known for their luxurious shops like Cos and Karl Lagerfeld, but also for its nice small stores. As from today, 1 of the 9 streets has the official name: Fur-free Street. All the shops in this street no longer sell fur and they will never do this again. What it even more remarkable, is that in this specific street the shops of Cos and Karl Lagerfeld are located. Besides the smaller shops, these big retailers have now agreed to join the club. Their branches in Amsterdam are now the only fur-free branches in the world. Are there maybe more to come?
