A year and a half ago the Cicret Bracelet was introduced to the mainstream. A bracelet that projects your smartphone screen to your arm. Watch the video on the left side of this page, it is very cool. Researchers at the University of Tokyo have been working on a project that may lead to the same concept, but without any bracelet. They are not there yet, but what they have so far is already very cool. They made very thin, light and stretchable plastic material that can hold electronic components. It is kind of like an electronic tattoo. For now it can be used to track muscle movements and stuff like that, but who knows what the future brings? It is very hard to explain how it works exactly, so I want to encourage you to watch the video. Anyway, if this goes well we maybe don’t need any devices in the future. Everything is 24/7 with us in our skin. Good thing: nobody can steal it anymore. Bad thing, well, I have my doubts about this concept. It scares me a little. Is it healthy? Do I really want to have my smartphone in my own skin? I don’t know yet, but luckily I have some years left to think about it.

The evolution of technology is making way more progress than we can imagine. I am talking for myself now, but I’m sure this will amaze you as well. As we have seen before, every single innovation in technology opens a door to lots and lots of new opportunities. This one opens yet another door.

We have seen this concept before, but that was only in science fiction movies that took place in like 2035 or something like that. It seems we don’t have to wait until 2035 to get this in real life. What am I talking about? E-skin as the title of this post says. I am really talking about E-skin. Artificial electronic skin for humans! Science fiction is becoming reality.
