Liberland Press has a yearly competition where creative companies can pitch their concept of innovative cities. How will people, society and the world evolve in the next couple of years and how will cities anticipate to that is the basis of every idea. This years winner is RAW-NYC Architects with their concept Liberland City. Liberland City is a city that self-sufficient in all its energy. Therefore they use only algae. Besides that, the construction of building is very remarkable. In the future, when more people want to house in Liberland City, it can grow in height instead of width. You can see it as a kind of building. The city will be constructed in a certain kind of way, that the ground floor will never get isolated from sunlight. The third and last great thing about Liberland City, is that it will be car-free. From the start, public transport will be integrated so well, that there will be no need to get a car. Everything a person needs is in 20 minutes distance. Why are we so much thinking about the future? I think it’s because the world keeps changing quicker than we thought. We are walking 9 steps faster than we can, but we are thinking 10 ahead.
Since the Industial Revolution, more and more people are housing in cities. Cities all over the world have been growing since then, and still. Are we heading to a future where nobody lives in the countryside anymore? A world with some capital cities surrounded by empty land? And what will the city from the future look like? Well, here’s an idea.
The city is the place to be. More people get higher educated and more people are getting a job that mostly only exists in cities. It looks like jobs like dentists, psychologists and office jobs keep vanishing from the countryside and move to the big city. The more people who move to the city, the more jobs are needed in the city. Think about barbers, bakers and bartenders. It’s a kind of domino effect. So, how will the future city look like?
