The owner and creator of Bunyadi’s, Seb Lyall, wanted to open a restaurant in the purest way possible. To achieve this he devised a couple of things: food is made with natural ingredients using simple cooking methods, like flame-grilled over wood, all food is served on clay plates, the space is filled with wooden furniture and illuminated only by candlelight. The last and crucial element: people have to naked and phones are not allowed.
I can understand it will be a crazy and funny experience, but the real question that pops up in my mind is: Why do we want this kind of stuff anyway? Do we really have a need for pureness? Are we in a society that is so open that we even want to go naked literally? I think both are totally irrelevant. I think we have created a continuously hunger for excitement that we can share with the rest of the world. We want to on vacation 3 times a year, we want to go to a festival every month and we have to let the rest of the world know how cool our life is on Instagram and Snapchat. Excitement is what we need these days and Bunyadi helps us fulfil this necessity. Besides that we all know: sex sells.
The last couple of years we saw some crazy concept restaurants and bars came to cross. For example: Mahika Mano Hammock Café in Tokyo, The Magic Restroom Café in LA and O.NOIR in Toronto. Since June 11th the world has got a new one that takes people really out of their comfort zone.
The Bunyadi restaurant in London opened its doors on June 11th, but before that they already had a 3-month waiting list with over 40.000 people! The concept of Bunyadi Restaurant is quite clear: having dinner while you are naked. Or partly naked. The restaurant has 2 separate parts: a part where you are allowed to wear a robe and flip-flops and a part where you can only go fully naked.
